DIY Furry Leopard Print (Any Print!) Phone Case
Today I'm going to be blogging about a short DIY project I undertook this morning :D

Things you'll need:

A furry sticker

Scissors

A phone case you don't like or wanna revamp

The shop I went to had a ton of choices! I liked the one with hearts, but Mom said it was too childish LOL.

Anyways I chose this classy print of a panther?leopard?jaguar?

This is a plain Eggshell phone case that I thought I'd revamp :)

1) First, draw out the rough outline on the back of the sticker. It's easy as pie even for someone who sucks at arts and crafts. Well, it's fine to go too little or too much because you can always snip off the extra or add on an extra piece. It's not an exact art :D

3) The back piece all cut out!

4) Cut out the camera hole. As you can see there is some space along the edge! Just stick on a small 1mm wide piece to cover it up!

5) As said scrap piece used to patch up the bare areas.

6) Don't forget that small strip of plastic that you face when you aim your phone towards you! Don't neglect that or it will be very ugly.

7)All done!

Some other things I've decorated before is my calculator :D It's been pink and furry for as long as I can remember (3-4 years??)

Have fun decorating, everyone! :) FYI, these stickers are about 3 ringgit for an A4 size and 1.50 for a notebook size :)

And these stickers are peel-able, but they're stickier than hell and would probably be really hard to tear off. Have never tried though!

Happy New Year anyways
Hello! I'm here now to rant on how much I dislike my body.

I've never particularly liked my body. Stumpy legs, no boobs, prominent ribs. These days I'm trying to gorge more on food to gain weight because I can't stand how hard it is to shop anymore. Everything that I like, everything that I want to wear is almost impossible to find, because it's just too big and I'm just too petite and small and it hangs loose on me. Nothing fits me, and I'm tired of it. I wear a size 3 shoe, and that can't be changed. But I just want to gain some weight so I can finally fit into some nice dresses, finally be able to wear bangles and bracelets, finally wear rings without them falling off. Finally able to wear stuff without gaping backs or gaping sleeves and wear low cut stuff without showing the world every single detail of my every collarbone and ribs. (And not even a smidgen of cleavage fml)

I have a small frame yes, but I have no "meat". I'm just a skeleton, and I'm bony. I am gaining weight in the legs and tummy currently, hoping to gain some in my upper body soon.

But anyways, to follow up with my title:

Happy new year :)

Thanks to 2012, for letting me meet him.

Thanks that I learned so much and earned some money.

Thanks that I got my phone and it had no problems (whew).

Thanks that the world didn't end.

Hoping 2013 will bring greater things for me :)

Monday, December 31, 2012

I remember a time when I would force myself to sleep very late, at 6 am, or even later, when I felt most tranquil, just so I could wake up late, very late, later than 3pm if possible. Why? Because everytime I woke up, I was faced into this great wall of pain, and I would curl up and I couldn't get out of bed, and it would just hit me the second I opened my eyes and faced the day, that it was pain. To check my phone, to see nothing, to throw myself into the meaningless loop of wondering What can I do? What could I have done? If only. Why me? This shouldn't be happening. It hurts. And then I cry.

It somehow gets better throughout the day as I rewatch the same episode of How I Met Your Mother over and over again, and speed past the parts which involve kissing, and then I try to eat a meal, and by 12 midnight I talk myself into being strong, because I was so tired from crying all day. Then I get on FB or Tumblr, and chat with someone I barely know and unload my problems on them (they then never talk to me again) and cry some more, and then I tell myself ENOUGH then I rewatch How I Met Your Mother and actually laugh at some parts, and then I feel good, but sleepy, and I tell myself oh no it's too early, I'll be awake by 1pm, no no. Then I drag on till I collapse, and I wake again with a rested mind, which then begins whirring again until I bear it down and tire it enough to stop reminding me of the pain.

Life stopped for that period of time. I would take a flu med when I only had sniffles and then I'd be so overjoyed that I would be spending the day asleep. Sleeping, crying, watching sitcoms through a blur of tears, trying to read a book when a million thoughts raced in my mind.

I don't know what is happening now to me, no pain, but now I feel like crying at the drop of the pin. I should probably NOT be having my period because then this would be my 3rd period this month.

Catch-Up Post
Sometimes I think.. Why do I blog? To document what happens in my daily life? To express my thoughts ? For tutorials and reviews and telling people about me and my life and where I've been?

Should I blog at all? Life has been so dreary of late that I can easily let my blog die by not even writing anything in months on end.

So how have I been?

Bored, and pretty lonely these few days. Everyday's been work, home, sleeping, then work, home and sleep all over again, with almost no break in between. Been kinda upsetting that's for sure. Still the same old same old, trying desperately to get everyone's approval but failing, trying to get everyone to like me and failing.

But if you wanna hear good news, here it is! Small things can make my day, or ruin it. So now I'll let some pictures and funny (hopefully) captions enrich you on what's been happening to me ever since I survived the apocalypse (yea sorry, had to make a cultural comment there just in case any future civilization chances upon this and wonders about the high traffic on December 21st 2012).

So after months and months of reading up iphone forums everyday (yes my life is this sad) I got an iPhone! I sold my iPod back in November when I visited the bf and have missed it sorely. I almost died without Instagram for a month. I had to use an old Nokia phone for the week before the launching of the iPhone (14th December 2012!) but it was all worth it. My black 32GB iPhone is now the sole reason why I am blogging LOLOL it is the most significant thing in this post. It came with a small scratch on the top corner on the back, but sighs, it's okay. Bf got the iPhone too back in KL :)

Reading: A Passion

I started reading when I was 8 or 9. It all started when I borrowed an Enid Blyton book home and I couldn't stop reading. I barely understood the words but I was so overjoyed at how I could immerse myself in a book for so many hours. And then began the Journey of Reading, which was a period of some 5 years of my life. I would read everywhere, bring a book everywhere, and read in the middle of class, in my bed secretly after Mum went to bed, and everywhere.

I feel like I've experienced so much through all these books I've read. I think that 50% of what I know doesn't come from my education, but what books I read in my formative years. I had a rich childhood, full of magic and adventure and wonder with every turn of the page.

I dragged my family to read too. We visited 3 libraries every weekend, and when we got home it would be 7 or 8. After all books were borrowed I refused to go ANYWHERE but home to read. I read 4 or 5 books a day on weekends and I would devour them all. In the car between libraries I'd already start reading. My parents were happy but forced to sit in libraries every weekend. I made so many friends at libraries too, while browsing through the many racks. I did increasingly get self-conscious when people stared at me, a little girl borrowing 10-15 books from one library alone (we had multiple memberships).

I would finish all the books before each weekend visit, and photocopy those books that made an impact to me. I didn't have ENOUGH books to read. I must have read all the books in the libraries. It became harder to choose books, because so many had been read! I must have read 500 books a year at least.

I revelled in not only fiction and literature, but also books about space, about the universe, learning about all the planets and their moons, the Egyptians and the Greeks and how they lived, cut-out 3D books about how the medieval people held sieges, books about how trains and escalators work, UNICEF books about all the children and all the cultures in the world, Amazing Facts books about our human bodies, and strange animal habits (our intestines stretched out would be kilometres long! there are butterflies which camouflage themselves to look like dangerous insects!)

I viewed life differently when I read shamelessly, openly, willingly. Now, I've become critical and self-conscious. Certain books I scoff at. Quality of books have dropped. I don't want people to think I'm a bookworm. I wish I could immerse myself in books the way I used to , instead of just occasional "hmm that was a good book" afternoons when I find myself temporarily in that vortex untouched by fatigue, hunger or time.

I miss those simple times in my life when a new adventure started every time I opened a new book; when I felt sad when a book ended; when I dwelled and properly thought about a book that had impacted me, for example poverty, war, child abuse; learning about how the Egyptians lived, about the Roman baths, about the social status of women in Greek, what the children did in their spare time; learned history and inventions of things; learned that Io is fiery and Europa icy (Jupiter's moons); learned so so much, that made me wise beyond my years.

So for that, I'd like to thank all the books which made me who I am today, thank you for teaching me all I need to know, thank you for colouring my childhood, thank you for being my friend when I was lonely, thank you because I was never bored when I was turning the pages, THANK YOU, for all the experiences and adventures you let me live through while sitting in my bed till the wee hours of the morning.

i surrounded myself with so many people I felt I should hang out with, people who study a lot, are smart, etc. To the point when I realised I wasn’t happy it was too late. Now I realise the friends I want all along, is not the kind whom can teach me about a subject if I’m unsure, but the kind who will go out shopping with me any time any day of the week just because there’s a party coming up.

you know what i’m saying?

in high school i judged people too much. those girls who were loud and always seemed to have SO much fun were all not the studying kind, not the smart kind, and I felt like okay since I'm in the best class I should maintain some boundaries and behave the way I should and befriend those I should. But now I regret a lot. Screw it with grades, kiasu-ness, comparison. I want to have fun, I want to have girlfriends who flunk out of school for all I care but whom I'm able to share a drink with and talk dirt with. To hell with it with judgement and expectations and stereotypes. Good girl, bad girl, they all don't matter.

You only live once. Do what you want to, do what you feel is right.

Lonely/Pathetic
Today I think i might talk about something not many people know about me.

It struck me today that I don't really have many close friends. And I wonder why is that? What is wrong with me?

Forgive me if you are a close friend who is reading this, but I do feel very lonely this time.

I attributed it at first to my attitude before. I always had difficulty forming close intimate bonds. I have commitment issues. I used to mock those people with the friendship bracelets and so on but thinking back, maybe I was jealous.

I've never really had a best friend. Since I was 12? I never had a best friend. And that makes me feel lonely.

I have friends who are shy/quiet/ reclusive/not really a mushy wushy person either but they have a safely comfortable family of friends to call their own.

I'm not really saying I want a clique.. More like, if I got married next week, I'd have no one to be my bridesmaids. I've formed almost no lasting close friendships. I don't have any lifelong old friends that I've kept in touch with. Maybe I'm to blame because I didn't make an effort to keep in touch. Everyone who was a close friend is either busy, we don't hang out anymore, they hang out with new people now, or we just don't have much common ground to talk about anymore.

Perhaps I've changed and so has everyone.

In college? I feel that I have lots of friends. I'm friendly and I enjoy people's company. But when it comes to the close details, I am always left out. People don't ask me to their outings. It puzzles me. We seem to talk so much and have so much to talk about.. But when it comes to this or that, I am never the one who is called.

I know it sounds pathetic. But I don't know. If it's just I haven't met the right friends yet or maybe it's something to do with my personality that people can't get close to. I don't enjoy communicating as in texting, skyping and so on, so you can hardly count on me to reply texts with friends and so on. I barely even text my own boyfriend, I don't like texting or chatting either. I like just meeting up and talking face to face. Maybe that's why? I am always scared to open up to people.. I am scared people will judge me. Like how I used to lie when I was younger cause I was poorer than my friends and didn't want people to know. But it feels that even when I try to open up, nothing comes of it.

People do see me as someone who dislikes being grouped with a group of friends too I feel. They see me as someone who enjoy being independent and etc. But at times, I just want at least one friend I can count on to not feel awkward with, to not leave me out, to be able to talk to about ANYTHING, to care about me and to be there for me if I wake up in the middle of the night in tears.

Until now, I don't know what is wrong with me which hinders people from seeing me as a close, true friend. Can someone enlighten me? I never try to be offensive or overly sarcastic.. Yet I find that no one places me of importance in their life. What is that barrier around me? Do I put up a wall around people which prevents people from befriending me? I know I'm not the easiest person. When I'm in a good mood, I talk nonstop, but when I'm upset or what, I'm a very quiet person. I might have a few awkward silences of my own and I have difficulty spending too much time with people.. If i go out all night and all day with the same person (even boyfriend) I feel very smothered. At home, after socialising a few hours I need to lock up alone in my room for a while. But I know a lot of people like that too, but they all have close best friends.

Maybe I just haven't met the right group of people with the same thinking and interests? I don't know. I've long accepted that no matter how hard I try to be smart, funny or nice and likeable, I'm just not a charismatic person who is liked by first sight, aka "ren jian ren ai." I know people whom everyone immediately likes and immediately wants to call out to every outing , whereas I remain one of those that people like, just never see as of any weightage.

I only pray one day that I am able to make lasting bonds and be able to be those people on Facebook I am so jealous of with all their "I am so lucky to have these friends!"

I feel seriously lonely. I've tried to stay in touch but it seems that I have to be the one making tremendous effort to call people out and I am still constantly left out. There comes a time when I give up asking people out and waiting to see if they would even think about me enough to want to see me.

Unhappy
Some times I wonder if I'm making a big mistake.

Part of me knows this is the right things to do, chasing my dreams so I don't regret in the future. Of course I feel scared. What if I don't get my offer and I end up with nothing? Or if I don't get my offer and waste my 8 months without even something to look forward to? I keep thinking, I'd be back in KL next week if it wasn't for me wanting to change courses. And I tell myself that's just an 8 month obstacle I have to face in order to achieve my dreams in the coming years. But it is HARD.

I guess I'm glad I never went overseas for an education. Can you imagine? Moving to KL alone makes me feel this way, and I can go back regularly. If I studied in another country and came back guess how lonely and nostalgic I would be? This is plain torture. Maybe not for anyone else. But my life here at home is very cooped up, and added with my constant need to be around people it is my own problem for being this unhappy. Some people who can drive, have car, have money, or have lenient parents, even enjoy being back home. But everytime I'm home after a few days I just want to get back OUT there.

So I keep thinking of the months ahead, the lonely hard months. Somehow I wish I was living in a cramped apartment in KL, working my ass off being broke, and it would still be better than being home. At least there, I feel wanted. Over here, I feel that everyone has forgotten about me and moved on. It's like how when you stand in the sand, there's your footprints in the sand, but when the tide shifts that special niche that belonged to you is gone and swept away.

I have no idea why these months ahead seem so dark and despairing.. Loss of freedom? I find myself some days wanting to just go back to the old course and just going back where I belong instead of chasing my dream, and I have to stop myself.. Sigh..

I'm really unhappy.

Grandpa's Funeral
I just came back from my Grandpa's funeral and I am very tired as he lives in a village back in the depths of Sarawak and I'm bitten and bruised and my skin is inflamed all over because I am sensitive to pollen and insect bites.

It was a very elaborate and noisy and grand funeral. I never knew there were so many customs. The last funeral I attended was my grandmother's 11 years ago.

I went up by bus with mom and bro because Dad drove up really early for preparations. Grandpa passed in his sleep, he got up earlier to go to the bathroom but fell down and cried for help, and my uncle helped him up and back to bed. The next morning, he could not be woken up already.

It was scary when I arrived at his house because he was placed on a pedestal, dressed in a samfoo and in front of him was an altar with food, drinks, and the joss sticks. I could not pray with a joss stick because I was 'dirty' and there was no electricity so I was scared at first. All grandchildren wore blue and the children and their spouses in white. The grandchildren with different surname (mother side's grandfather) had a red and blue wristband. I only had blue. My little brother, being the eldest son of my grandpa's eldest son, was the "Big Grandchild."

We were not allowed to wear red, talk loudly or wear jewelry. But my aunts did talk and catch up as many have not seen each other for a long time. It's sad how families end up this way. I never saw my grandpa much. Perhaps more when I was a toddler and he lived in Kuching but after he moved Dad never stayed in touch either and after that I only saw him a few times and I did visit him in hospital the time he was admitted. After he was released we were all relieved because we had expected him to die in the hospital. However, there are A LOT of politics involved in my family, about lands, there are age-old vendettas from childhood, scandals about brothers stealing other brothers' grain and a lot of "cutting off" and things like that.

We folded paper money for Grandpa the whole night. There were other stuff I couldn't understand because I don't read Chinese and I'm not proficient in Hakka, the main dialect there. It was very grand and dramatic. I found out that when people die you're supposed to donate to them. Mum was shocked when she heard that someone donated a large sum to my dad and she said next time if that person has a death in her family we have to pay the same amount as it's custom. However, my dad and his siblings donated a lot of the money to the various associations like the Hakka Clan, the Farmer's Association so that it would be a grander ceremony and these associations would send their representatives to pray to him and also to send their ?gong-beaters? and beat the gongs during the procession. There were other Chinese papers stuck here and there which I couldn't understand. We also couldn't kill insects in the house in case it was Grandpa.

My Grandpa 'chut ping' at 1pm and my family had roles to play. Males on one side, females on one side. The master of the customs prayed and we knelt a lot. We all had to tie a cloth around our heads as mourners, white for children, blue for grandchildren. Daddy and bro had to carry the tongkat and wear special hats as they were the eldest sons. Mum, as the eldest daughter-in-law, also had a role to play. She disappeared very early on and in turns out she had to come with a huge joss stick and toss the ashes in Grandpa's grave and then stick it onto his burial gravestone which was side by side with my grandmother's. Then she had to hide away in the forest (lol) and no one could see her as it was pantang.

After the praying in the house and the tossing of the kidney shaped pieces my grandpa was willing to go. Also, they put him in the coffin and before that they placed a lot of clothes and paper money in the coffin. Dad had to feed him rice as a symbol and the daughters covered him with a white cloth. Grandpa looked very grand in his sam foo and beautiful shoes. Then they used an axe to chop the supporters of the coffin and other rituals and all I knew was once you left the house you must NOT step back inside.

We started our journey to the graveyard with the hearse in front and the gong-beaters second, followed by us. We reached there and did more prayers and burial rites and it was really, really hot and I felt very faint from hunger and fatigue. Then we went to serve food, like pig's head and so on for grandpa and also offerings to the god of the soil to protect my grandpa.

After that we went back home and shortly after, we came down to Kuching. It saddens me every time I see how old people are treated, but at least we gave Grandpa a proper funeral.

My Medical Problems
I have a knack of freaking out over health stuff but there are some things which worry me the most.

As a child up till the age of 10 I had sporadic panic attacks. I never knew what it was called till recently. I would be at school, or in a supermarket, with my parents, and then I would experience this sudden intense fear and I'd just freeze and not be able to breathe. The feeling lasts mostly about 10-15 seconds, and till now I don't know why I have this. There is no trigger, it just happens. I always thought I was weird and tried to describe it to friends: "It's like suddenly you feel cold and everything just feels wrong and you're so scared and there's a horrible feeling in your stomach, don't you guys feel that?"

For the most part of my early teens I had serious indigestion to the point I threw up at least once a day because of nausea no matter how much food I took (or how little). It got better slowly.

Over the past year I've been having periods of excessive sweating and hot flushes and I've attributed it to a hormone deficiency. I even got tested for hyperthyroidism (overproduction of thyroid hormone) but now I've accepted that it's a symptom of my PMS as I always face this problem before my period.

But there is one thing that has been a constant problem : my posture.

Since I was 12 I have always sat straight and walked straight. I am short enough and I know I HAVE to not slouch. I always have back pain but I attributed it to standing so straight all the time. And perhaps also due to my body shape: I have a very pointy butt. My ass sticks out a lot and I don't deliberately do it, it just is that way. I can't wear pencil skirts for the life of me because then the back of my skirt tents up LOL. But yeah, I have pain on my lower back at the sides. It's a dull soreness on both sides.

At first I was worried that it was my kidneys LOL but I think that's too far-fetched. Both sides of my lower back are very tender and painful everytime. I've also noticed my back is not straight and I think I have a mild case of scoliosis as I do have uneven hips and one shoulder is higher than another. And yes, my  spine is not straight but I always thought it was normal.

But nowadays my back pain is getting worse. I don't wear a lot of heels and it's my lower back that hurts so it shouldn't be a bra issue?

I should go to a doctor.

Smart Consumer
Staying up late because I'm watching UEFA and also because I'm reading reviews online. I am positively ANAL about reviews. Let it be buying phone, buying camera, getting a digital perm, buying lenses and so on, I'll be glued to the screen reading up on each product for weeks on end. Yes, I do my research before buying something, which is why I gain a lot of unnecessary knowledge about lenses and megapixels and phone processors and etcetera. I am a giant perfectionist and thus I want to get the perfect product!

Right now my current research is on BB creams. It's so hard to choose! I have to decide if I want oil control, light or strong coverage, and so on, and worse is the price factor is also a big factor. I reviewed so many lenses that by now I know what I want (yay!)

Right now I'm googling on hair colours to dye ! My parents want it a darker shade for my upcoming interview, so I'm going to dye it. I actually quite like my hair colour now, it's a bit washed out and light at the ends but it looks good in pictures. I last dyed it in late August and touched it up around January, so my roots are pretty bad now :( If I dye it now by the same time next year it'll be ugly again when I start school :( but what to do, right now I'm researching on hair colours. So far all my colours have been a red or violet base, maybe I'll try an ash brown? But ash doesn't last long so I want a purple ashy hair colour like this:

And maybe next year I'll dip dye or highlight it with pinks or purples ;) It's time to do something daring! And I want to get a tattoo too! :) YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE!

Some pictures of dinner with my girls at Sharing Planet:

Chai and I :)

Shelly and I :)

Dada and I :) She's the birthday girl!

Missed my girls and all our crazy high school times! So good to catch up and talk again :) We don't need to stay in touch because we've known each other so long it's the same everytime!
