I am so disappointed about Australia. I mean, seriously la. Got disease, cure lah. Don't take away people's chances. There is such a thing as modern medicine and quarantine. Who knows I can get kidney cancer after that. Swine flu is peanuts. Swine flu is no biggie. People are paranoid, that's all. Most of those who have died are Mexican and the rest have been successfully and I add, easily treated.
Anyway, if swine flu is really the big shot that it is, we'll all get it eventually. Why not let me get it earlier and get it over with since I'm going to get it and die somewhere in the future anyway? I'd much rather go to Australia.
I mean, it's a possibility that I won't get swine flu. It's a possibility I will and I will get treated successfully. It is a possibility that I will get it anyway next week. It's all possible.
But it is not very probable that I will ever go to Australia again. I don't see myself striking it rich or marrying an Aussie or furthering my studies to Australia.
You know how we are taught in school that appearances don't matter? Image doesn't matter as long as the heart is pure? It is all fake.
I don't blame the school for rules or anything. It all stems from society's ideals and hypocrisy too. If Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is set in this era, it would still have hypocrisy as a theme.
Let me start with an example. Say, earrings. Wearing big earrings. It's a portrayal of every individual's character. Most importantly,
it does not cause any harm. Wearing big earrings causes harm to NO ONE.
Then why can't we, if there's no concrete reason? Because, and I'm sure no one will argue with me, because we want passers-by to see the students and remark on how disciplined and utilitarianistic we all look. Teachers have said often enough, uniforms and similiarities of students are pleasing on the eye and causes people to think we are very disciplined and neat.
Hypocrisy much? It all stems down to one thing: what happens behind closed doors must be hidden by a neat outlook. Means that all this boils down to appearances do matter in society. This is all to keep up appearances that all is happy.
I mean, St Teresa is thankfully an OK school, but if the school was full of drug junkies and smokers, but we all wore neat uniforms and small earrings and high ponytails, all passers-by would see us as a reputable school. Keeping up appearances. When the Education officers come, we are told to be disciplined and all.
I don't actually mind that because I believe appearances are important. But moral values about how someone's appearance does not matter is really fake.
It should be taught like, "Someone's appearance does matter in projecting a positive image to any onlookers". NOT, "Image and appearance does not matter."
Hypocrisy is a part of life. In speech,we use metalanguage and cliches to soften our speech. If not, we would be crude and rude. We say "We'll see" instead of "No". We say "Oh really? Haha I have to go now, chat later" instead of "I'm not interested in what you have to say so get the fuck off."
So, just tell us wearing big earrings will cause people to think we are wild sluts and it will damage the school's reputation, and reputation is actually important because it means money for the school and society is all about image.
Then I won't mind so much about that rule because you're honest and I respect your opinion.
Ah, if only school was that honest. But no, hypocrisy. Loophole here, everything is fake. Damn now I can't understand what I'm saying.
